ABSTRACT

Aspects will need to be considered pre-lesson time, for instance a young person who may need assistance in seeing even with glasses may have to orientate themselves in the changing rooms prior to the swimming lesson. A young person who has difficulty concentrating or remembering may need to observe the first lesson before participating to comprehend what they may be expected to do. A teaching assistant would be ideal for this pre-lesson orientation, particularly if they were able to provide a verbal commentary about what was going on, whilst pointing out or mentioning key aspects that may be of interest or importance to the young person. When in the water consider that the young person in question may need to have a separate space in order to orientate themselves within the pool whilst a more formal teaching session is taking place alongside.
