ABSTRACT

The ability to assess accurately the risk of offending or challenging behaviour presented by a given person has been subject to decades of research within forensic populations, with a number of tools and methodologies being found to be clinically useful in formulating treatment and management plans. However, there is little by way of research that explores the concept of risk assessment in the context of those with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). This chapter provides an overview of the literature in the area and how it may impact on our conceptualisation of risk assessment in ABI. In addition, the chapter proposes a neurobehavioural risk assessment framework that draws on the empirical research, suggesting key areas of consideration that may aid clinical decisions when working with behavioural risks such as interpersonal violence and sexual offending.
