ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the cultural dimensions of property rights in New Zealand. It considers how competing perceptions of property have contributed to conflict from the beginning of contact between Maori and Pakeha. Introducing the different legal regimes, it uses examples to stimulate thoughts on a theory for customary property law and management.
