ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an important role for anthropology in the contemporary world in terms of the issues of diversity and the environment, especially climate change. Issues of diversity are concerned with an increase in the number of refugees and the mobility of the world population in terms of jobs and education. There are often conflicts associated with this mobility, which provides a role for anthropologists as mediators. Issues of climate change are concerned with the relationship between human and environmental health. There are significant consequences of climate change, often experienced in terms of mobile source air pollution and compromised indoor air quality. These can both lead to health problems for humans, thus providing an area in need of anthropological expertise. The author also discusses the experiences that led her to become an applied environmental anthropologist.
