ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Joana Breidenbach explores how her training in anthropology in Munich, Berkeley and London liberated her personally and provided a satisfying lens on life in general. It also deeply influenced her career as a writer and digital-social entrepreneur. Early on, she shaped the discourse about cultural globalization in Germany by popularizing academic anthropological works. Later, key anthropological approaches such as multiperspectivity, social justice and a holistic understanding of the outer and inner facets of life not only informed her outlook on the ongoing transformation from an industrial to a digital era but also contributed significantly to concrete digital innovations, which in turn would shape the reality of millions of internet users.
