ABSTRACT

The collective body of work around funds of knowledge has had an enormous impact on the field of literacy, with approximately 14,000 scholarly citations, according to Harzing’s Publish or Perish since the first publications began appearing in 1992. The CRIOP instrument clearly integrated and reflected FOK, and it therefore aligned well with the grant’s call. The small cohort of teachers participating in the Advanced Leader graduate coursework was the first to encounter the concept, as they took a graduate course with me prior to the grant’s summer institute for all participating teachers. The first part of this project is most closely tied to FOK, although some students choose to include or focus entirely upon FOK in their professional development workshop plans. One area where my course may align fairly well with the FOK method is with the family visit assignment.
