ABSTRACT

This chapter aims at presenting b-learning modality used by the interpreter trainers at the Institute of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw, within its MA program and postgraduate program for public service translators and interpreters. The study is based on the online survey to which 15 out of 20 invited interpreter trainers responded. The overall findings prove that b-learning can effectively support interpreter training. What draws particular attention is that b-learning strengthens not only interpreting but also other competences, such as the use itself of new technologies for interpreting purposes. What is more, it must be underlined that the results of the study have been affected by the experience of the COVID-19 spring semester; some trainers have claimed that the distant training model is becoming an obligation, instead of being a free choice on the part of the trainer and the trainees. Nonetheless, in spite of scepticism expressed by the respondents, a general opinion is that b-learning is an inevitable step towards both conference and public service interpreter training in the 21st century and that recent developments have only sped up the use of b-learning as an interpreter training method.
