ABSTRACT

‘The Anglophone problem’, ‘the Anglophone crisis’, referring to the socio-political and economic imbalance between the Anglophones and the ‘Francophones’ in Cameroon under the current system of governance, has been articulated many times. Cameroon has over 250 different ethnic groups. It is divided into many subcultural groupings each having a language and/or dialect. Officially, there are two languages, English and French, which characterise the administrative, economic and political organisation of the country. Kam No Go presents contemporary Anglophone Cameroon where, because of selfish ambitions, pro-regime politicians and sympathisers validate manipulation and divide and rule to the detriment of the common man. Kam No Go and Gomen Na We relate how political and socio-economic happenings in Anglophone Cameroon offer material for artistic creativity. The participatory theatre practice encouraged the masses to put their differences aside and ensure the reign of good governance through tolerance, transparency and peaceful resolution of conflict and justice.
