ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Bed , a street theatre performance in which performers from Entelechy’s Elders Theatre Company are in bed in their nightclothes, in public spaces, engaging with and observing the passing public. Bed was drawn from life and honoured the performers’ lived experience and knowledge. Bed distilled many stories and made the beds the stage on which invisible lives could be made visible. Since this initial performance in Deptford Market, most of Entelechy Arts’ Elders Theatre Company have performed in Bed all over the country from Dundee to Winchester, and at festivals including the Brighton Festival and the South Bank Centre’s (B )old Festival. Entelechy’ s Elders’ Theatre Company was formed in 2006 and in partnership with the Albany, Meet Me at the Albany was launched. Meet Me at the Albany , a partnership with the Albany and the London Borough of Lewisham, is an alternative to daycare developed for isolated older people in the borough.
