ABSTRACT

The Pombas Urbanas group emerged in the city of Sao Paulo in 1989, in the neighbourhood of Sao Miguel Paulista, east of Sao Paulo. Its emergence was due to the realization of a project called “Sowing Wings” developed by the Peruvian director Lino Rojas, who chose to work with the youth in the periphery. In 2007, the group returned to the streets of Sao Paulo with a new show, different from those it had already produced. Pombas Urbanas always sought to be integrated into the community in which it was based. The Cultural Centre for Art in Process is housed in a 1,600-square-metre warehouse located in Cidade Tiradentes, on the eastern side of Sao Paulo. For the continuity of powerful initiatives like those that have been carried out for more than a decade by the group that maintains the Cultural Centre for Art in Process, it is essential to continue and expand the public policy focus on art and culture.
