ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to begin the analysis of the different forms used by the group in their early work to show their context and identify some paths in terms of alternatives to contemporary theatre relating aesthetic creation to local issues. The use of the term is based on R. Haesbaert, who emphasizes two significant dimensions in relation between space and power: The material and the symbolic. In addition to designating concrete and quantifiable space, territory appears as a place of affect, of demarcation, and it can be important in processes of strengthening community pride. The crossing of territory in the theatre is intensified from opening of the theatrical space to interaction with the public, allowing the insertion of the present moment. Grupo Codigo is characterized by, as one of their principal features, a strong connection with community in taking local issues to the stage through a repertoire composed of original texts and adaptations of classic national and global dramas.
