Wendy Doniger then examines the assertion that ancient Indian literature describes not only how modern flying machines were anticipated but also how they were built and flown, and the role those notions have played in Hindu nationalist arguments in contemporary India. Ultimately, she finds that, though ancient aircraft are imaginary, the political influence of those same airplanes is very real.
