ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of the book. This book demonstrates how citizens are birthing or creating innovative models that claim their human right to Speak Truth to Power, which usually translates as not only recognizing and espousing the truth about a set of circumstances but also as acting on one’s truth and rejecting a counterfeit solution being sold by a powerful force. It highlights the growing evidence that hospital culture creates vertical violence—authoritative figures injudiciously exerting power over members of another profession lower in the hierarchy, such as the physician over the nurse or midwife, or the nurse manager over the nurse or midwife, sometimes resulting in those “lower” professionals turning on each other or on their patients to vent their frustrations. The book shows what can occur in a very short time to a large population when privatization is sold as “better” and “more efficient.”.
