ABSTRACT

After swimming competitively year-round for the past eight years, Tyler needs a break. He’s 16 years old, ending his sophomore year in high school, and can’t bring himself to transition from his winter short course championship meets into the upcoming summer long course season. Tyler often felt sad while swiping through social media, seeing friends having fun, and enjoying their lives. He hadn’t exactly been making time for friends as much as he thought he should. While he took time off from swimming, Tyler had been working out with his dad at a local gym. In late spring, he started swimming there for 45–60 minutes after workouts. With a few weeks of swimming at the gym under his belt, and long course season already underway, Tyler began thinking about what he wanted out of swimming moving forward.
