ABSTRACT

Josh is an eight-year-old US European American male who is in third grade and in his first season of competitive basketball. He has heterosexual parents who are married and a sister who is two years older. Since then, Josh has become fearful of teams with bigger players and reputations for poor sportspersonship, and more specifically, those displaying aggressive behaviors. Josh reported not wanting to play against these teams; however, he knew he would have to due to the limited number of tournaments and teams in the area. Josh’s father then reaches out to you by e-mail with a brief description of his son’s change in behavior during the basketball season. The completed intake form contains a request to learn more about competitive anxiety, self-confidence, and integrating faith into sport, all of which were items you discussed over the phone with Josh’s father.
