ABSTRACT

Zimbabwe has traditionally been a strong sport nation producing talent now living as diaspora across the globe. Football is the most popular sport, with Zimbabwe Women’s team, the Mighty Warriors, being present at Rio 2016. The sports the athletes participated in at Rio were Women’s Football, Rowing, Equestrian, Shooting, Archery, Swimming, and Athletics. Talent is developed through the National Sport Federations (NSFs). Athletes develop recreationally, semi-professionally, or professionally through the NSFs. Zimbabwean elite sport remains hampered by a lack of sufficient funding in a nation that relies on agricultural and mineral exploration, plagued by drought, poor economic conditions, hyperinflation, disease, and virus outbreaks, which have impacted industries across the nation; this includes sport.
