ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reflects the range of ways in which the sublime can be understood and applied, reaching back to pivotal influences. It offers the reader a panoply of creative ideas and stimulating lines of thought. The book brings together expert perspectives from the academy and the clinical field under two main parts: Theory and Culture. It unpacks multifarious readings of the sublime and demonstrates their relevance for a wide range of contemporary themes. The book explains the importance of upholding the value of scrutinizing what is beyond the limits of the ordinary: the blazing sublime. The 2014 Conference was an inspiring event, at which Jungians and Lacanians came together both in acknowledging their joint origin in the genius of Freud and in expressing their divergent views of psychoanalysis in their different languages.
