Sámi research in transition – an introduction

This chapter introduces the book’s main aims and rationale. The authors discuss briefly the history of Nordic colonialism(s), the relationships between colonialism and research and the social processes which have grounded the perceived paradigm shift from Lappology to “new” Sámi research. In addition, the introductory chapter discusses some of the issues and challenges that appear central for contemporary efforts to make research more accountable to the Sámi, and introduces each chapter included in the book.
