ABSTRACT

Despite the little consensus observed in the literature about the definition of terrorism, one finds greater agreement about the essentiality of funding for this phenomenon. Therefore, combating terror financing is extremely relevant in the fight against terrorism, since this phenomenon relies heavily, as already pointed out, on financial resources. Accompanying these practices must be measures to suppress money laundering, since these procedures are so fundamental to the movement of money in or out of the financial system and in such a way as not to be identified by the authorities. Therefore, this chapter intends to analyse the Brazilian case of combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering. Brazil's acquiescence and commitment to the understanding of the threat terrorism poses to international peace and security is historical, since the enactment of the United Nations Charter in the country on October 1945.
