ABSTRACT

The Islamic State, which suddenly attracted the attention of the world and public opinion with its videos of the brutal murder of the captured prisoners, had taken under control a significant part of Iraq and Syria and became an important actor from 2014 to 2019. In terms of terrorism literature, the financing of the Islamic State should be defined as an important case to be understood. As for all other terrorist organisations, for the Islamic State too, the continuity and influence of the organisation were dependent on the military and financial resources it had and the permanence of their supply. Before the establishment of the Islamic State, it was claimed that Al-Qaeda in Iraq had a financial structure worth about 200 million dollars in Iraq through oil smuggling, ransom, and similar methods. After oil, the most important source of income for the organisation was the money it collected from the people.
