ABSTRACT

This overview chapter lays out the premise for leadership by women. First, it is to state the case as a matter of equity. Second, that leadership by women, when anchored on purposeful change and sensitivity to the value of the voices and expressed identities of women, leads to change in the content of clinical care, education, research, and policy with the resultant improvement in the health status and well-being of all. Set in a conversational and personal tone, this editor reflects on her own identity, historical context and experience in medicine, and the process of inviting women leaders to contribute their narrative case stories to derive individual and organizational learnings.
