ABSTRACT

This chapter, a detailed bio-chronological narrative intertwined in an interesting manner, tells the tale of the writer’s personal life and how it is enmeshed with everything he wrote and published. Wherever required it has an additional note on the sociocultural, even political, atmosphere of what was taking place in the subcontinent alongside this decisive timeline in the life of the author. The timeline is detailed, listing out each year in his life, alongside details of personal events. It also references, across a chronological canvas, where these personal incidents have emerged in a creative example either as a reworking of that context or even as something he writes of directly. There are many elaborate quotes from Paul’s various fictional and non-fictional writings which throw light on how he himself understood many of the things that were taking place around him. This chapter is a vital document by itself and it also adds substance and texture to all the other chapters by pointedly highlighting several elements from the writer’s life which otherwise could not have been brought into the volume.
