ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the result of a fruitful collaboration between scholars that lasted approximately 20 years, and briefly suggests future developments of the Dire le Décor Antique (DDA) project. The goal of DDA is to provide students, teachers, and researchers particularly in the fields of History, Archeology and Art History, whether familiar with Ancient authors or not, with a reliable collection of Greek and Latin texts covering all aspects of art in Antiquity. The selected passages are classified chronologically by author—Latin and Greek writers are not set apart from each other. This sequential progression allows the quotations, elaborations, and borrowed passages to appear clearly. It permits the reader to put the information into perspective according to its status as first-hand data or previously known material compiled and reused by the author.
