ABSTRACT

Once Alpheios is turned on, a toolbar for quick access to all of the Alpheios resources is added to the page, as well as an event handler which listens for double-clicks of the mouse on any word on the page. Identifying a word the user is interested in, and the language that word belongs to, is the primary interaction between the Alpheios tools and the webpages on which it is used. But, for text such as this, Alpheios makes it possible for publishers of digital publications and websites to provide instructions to Alpheios in their HTML markup via data attributes and alpheios-namespaced CSS. Despite the availability of these customizations and the general ease of use of the Alpheios browser extensions, there are situations when it is desirable to have the Alpheios functionality made directly available to users of a digital publication.
