ABSTRACT

Salome Thomas-EL shares his wisdom about building resilience, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving capabilities within students from all backgrounds. He suggests that one way to provide more opportunities for instilling these success traits within all students is by offering after-school programs for all students. He specifically shares his passion for the game of chess and how it has positively impacted scores of students at schools where he has served for many years. According to Thomas-EL, the education of our students will be their saving grace, so we must ensure that all students receive the very best opportunities possible. Building resilience through chess has been a great equalizer among the student populations Salome has served, becoming a game changer in terms of more equitable educational outcomes.
