India and the United States

Both India and the United States claim to be realist powers acting in their own national interests. However, the history of their interactions belies this assertion. An examination of the bilateral relationship confirms that non-realist (primarily cultural) variables play an overly significant role, causing both states to make rash policy decisions inimical to national interests and prevent them from establishing mutually beneficial relations.
