ABSTRACT
The chapter argues that India’s foreign policy towards the West Asian region has, over the decades, featured a pendulum-like movement between a Nehruvian ethic and a more starkly realist stance today. Yet the duality of these principles remains a hallmark of India’s policy and can be seen in Narendra Modi’s diplomatic outreach to selected countries, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Iran and the Palestine National Assembly.
