ABSTRACT

The world order is changing as it has always been, for several reasons and in several ways. The world order has been changing by the emergence of new political and economic powers, which keep up the security concerns. In addition to the major powers of the global politics, there are actors of multilateral platforms playing their role. This change is more evident in the times of COVID-19 pandemic as it is creating new normal and new absurdities. For all the reasons, this chapter is an attempt to present the relations between India and the United States, which are centuries old and have had steered its way to a stronger and more promising partnership today. The two countries have a lot in common, democratic values, complex societies, colonial history and global repute by virtue of contribution to international institutions and so on, which becomes the basis for their cooperation. We must also acknowledge the differences between the two, different approach towards ideologies since Cold War, the difference in geographic location and subsequent regional politics emerging out of it, India's emphasis on multi centrism and so on. India has shown great resolve in order to protect its own interests and has not given into any pressures or manipulations. Taken together, all these commonality and difference features in context, Indo-US relations have been getting stronger and stronger. This chapter discusses the evolution of Indo-US relations, the concerns that these countries must address, to their relations amid and after COVID-19 crisis.
