ABSTRACT

Carrying forward the momentum in US–India maritime ties under the Obama administration, the Trump administration has belied expectations in advancing US–India maritime partnership. This chapter seeks to analyse US–India maritime partnership at three levels: first, the natural transition from Obama to the Trump administration; second, what are the constraints for India in its full-fledged engagement with the United States in the maritime domain? And finally, what are the prospects of and what would a maritime grand strategy in the Indo-Pacific between the United States and India look like?
