ABSTRACT

The chapter gives the analysis of types and economic functional activities of the villages in Mongolia which have just created the legal basis for settlements capable of being granted village status. Therefore, studying which settlements can be granted village status, what types of village settlements are in Mongolia, and what types of economic functional activities these settlements carry out is the main purpose of this study. As a result of evaluating the potential settlements through indicators, we found villages which can be granted village status and then categorized them into three types. Within the three types, we explored the dominant economic functional activities. Findings show that multi-functional activities are developed in the villages of Mongolia. On the other hand, it proves that villages can play a role in rural development through their multi-functional economic activities.
