ABSTRACT

The Bhagavad-gītā has given rise to a vast body of literature, both in the Hindu tradition and beyond. This chapter will first focus on the exegesis of the Bhagavad-gītā in the Hindu tradition, from Shankara until modernity. Following this, the chapter will focus on the text itself and asks the following questions: Does the Bhagavad-gita then have a philosophy and an interpretation of its own? What is the Bhagavad-gita’s view onthis matter? Does it have a philosophy of its own, or does it have philosophies of its own?
