ABSTRACT

Neurodiversity has increased recognition in the mental health field and research is showing that attuning to and being aware of how to work with neurodiverse populations is necessary (Goodman-Scott & Lambert, 2015). Children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are often participating in mental health treatment due to the myriad of behavioral and emotional challenges present (Hansen et al., 2000). The intersection of play therapy theory and techniques with neurodiverse populations through group play therapy is the focus of this chapter.
