ABSTRACT

TraumaPlay® is a flexibly sequential play therapy model grounded in attachment theory and based on current understandings of the neurobiology of play, trauma, and the power of one to heal the other. This chapter describes an immersive group experience for adoptive children called Camp Nurture. The program amplifies therapeutic growth in two key areas of TraumaPlay: 1) enhancing self-regulation and 2) expanding the role of parents as partners in their child’s healing. The structure of camp, the roles of camp counselors and parents during camp, and a daily schedule of group experiences will be highlighted.
