ABSTRACT

Klåstad church is located on the Östergötland plain 3 km from Vadstena monastery in Östergötland in Sweden. The rundkyrka (eng. round church) was discovered by archaeologists in 1997 and is 1 of 13 examples from medieval Sweden. The church dates from AD c. 1200 and burned down in the 1560s. Below the rundkyrka, the remains of an eleventh-century stave church were discovered during excavations in 2000. The coin finds from the later church add up to more than 200 coins. These finds will form the basis for discussions of the building structure, devotional culture and monetisation.
