ABSTRACT

Andrew Thomas’ contribution sets the scene well for chapters that follow. The use of the Bible in practical theology is thus an area requiring further attention. Alongside affirming the authority of Scripture, the authors of this book demonstrate a commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, within which the crucifixion of Jesus has central place. The role of the Christian community in conversion and growth is also highlighted by Isaac McNish’s reflection on role of critical thinking within a small group Bible study. As researchers the people have gained encouragement from the vibrancy of research being undertaken by evangelical students, practitioners, and scholars. There is a significant amount of social scientific research into evangelical practice but there is plenty of room for further qualitative theological research. It is evident that, for the contributors to this book, not only does their location within evangelicalism impact their practical theologising, but the observations and reflections that they draw from practice influence their evangelicalism.
