ABSTRACT

Krishna Sobti and Krishan Baldev Vaid were very good friends who had an ongoing dialogue over a long period of time on many literary and cultural issues. These extracts, however, have been taken from the dialogue they formally conducted between themselves in a formal manner when Vaid visited Sobti at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. With the new means of communication, the complexities of the market have come to bear heavily on thought, word, language and human values all over the world. A new interplay is visible within and amongst different societies. The market has encroached upon human privacy and individuality. Excessive urbanisation of cities and metropolises and population explosion have driven the metropolitan cities towards disintegration, especially in developing countries. This can be considered a big transformation in terms of civilisation and culture.
