ABSTRACT

Art therapy provides an opportunity to amplify marginalised voices, raise awareness, expand critical consciousness, and move beyond private spaces into the public to impact social perceptions and create change. Moving stories out of the therapy space and sharing work with an attuned, interested audience can be transformative for the artist to re-author the story and consider the impact on others. This chapter is illustrated through the case study of a person who experienced post-traumatic stress disorder and co-presented a film about her trauma. It summarises findings from a research study where the collective exhibition of women who experienced miscarriage, infertility, and loss helped them to connect and find meaning in their shared pain.
