ABSTRACT

Resonate presents itself as a conceptual methodology for the value-based management of communities, organizations, and individual citizens. Such a proposition might seem rather ordinary, yet it is not. Indeed, in most organizations, we manage value but rarely manage by value. Even if, on the face of it, it is only a simple semantic shift, the issue is important because it is the shift from value as object or subject to value as symbolic mediation between objects and subjects. Resonate is being conceptualized as a way to (a) register an individual, an organization, or a city or region’s intent to act upon some of the sustainable development goals; (b) provide an opportunity to monitor progress by individuals and organizations on all goals and chosen indicators; and (c) use real-time data to make improvements to policies and incentive systems to achieve an appropriate balance in meeting a community’s goals on sustainability.
