ABSTRACT

This chapter examines research on college and university presidents to inform our understanding of presidential leadership at bachelor’s degree granting broadly accessible institutions (BAIs). By applying Eddy’s Multidimensional Leadership Model as our conceptual framework, we developed four key takeaways to inform presidential leadership at BAIs: (1) the need to address presidential leadership holistically; (2) drawing knowledge and expertise from presidential leadership at community colleges and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs); (3) the need for more women and women of color in the presidency of BAIs; and (4) presidential leadership in times of crisis. Findings from this chapter were tailored to equip scholars and practitioners with research-based recommendations for advancing the study of presidential leadership at BAIs.
