ABSTRACT

In the opinion of Mr. Keir Hardie, the present Labour party is the outcome of the trade union movement. In some constituencies, where there are two seats, the liberals proposed putting one candidate forward only, in the hope that the I.L.P. Again and again the authors have said that this Government ought to be given a chance. It is the first Liberal Government which has held office since the Whig landlords and the new rich aspirants for social distinction, like Joseph Chamberlain, were shed. The authors have said that when the Government seemed lukewarm in their work, they should be the first to say so. Some progressive changes, first formulated by the Liberals, the Tories have subsequently passed, simply in order to keep office: for when out of office they oppose these reforms, as they are at present obstructing every reform by the most abandoned and unscrupulous methods.
