ABSTRACT

This article explores parallels and comparisons between the rise of right-wing powers and politics in both India and Turkey in an effort to highlight possible trends and spaces for further research. The essay is theoretically informed by the Cultural Political Economy approach and adopts the most different systems design. Focusing on the governmental influence that both the AKP and the BJP have in their respective countries allows us to discern a common trend in the rise of right-wing powers in the context of majoritarian politics. The analysis is concentrated on three fields: economic growth and development, socio-cultural histories and discourses concerning the relationship between economic development and the evolvement of the nation state.
