ABSTRACT

Under the rule of the Justice and Development Party (the AKP), the principle of laicism has been greatly damaged. The rise of political Islam against laicism, combined with the war in Syria, has left the Alevi minority in a very perilous situation. This article will examine the current situation of laicism in Turkey and the growing power of political Islam. It will subsequently discuss the struggles of Alevis, with particular focus on the Arab Alevi youth movement.
