ABSTRACT

The transformation of the Turkish news media offers a very important example of the transformation of the mass media in the neoliberal era. In this study, the political–economic transformation of Turkey’s mass media sector will be discussed according to the thoughts of David Harvey on neoliberalism. The aim of this article is to discuss Harvey’s concept of “accumulation by dispossession” in order to understand the contemporary connections between economics and media and communication studies and to highlight the current status of the news media in Turkey.
