ABSTRACT

Corporate foresight has a strategic value in that it enables organizations to innovate, to identify opportunities and to respond to the latent vulnerabilities of the environment. It is a powerful tool, not much explored, which can help companies to get ready for a future which is increasingly unpredictable, near and singular. Dream, vision and myth are the real drivers of change, because they are respectively the imagination of individuals, groups and society. They are engines fueled by the power of imagination. Notwithstanding the difficulties, living with change opens up an infinite horizon because, in the words of Schopenhauer, “Change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal”. Paraphrasing Charles Snow, the challenge of today is to be men who “have the future in their bones”. In other words, the future belongs to those who can imagine it.
