Corporate Foresight (CF) is a participatory and systematic process which looks at the future with a medium to long-term vision identifying threats and opportunities in political, sociocultural, competitive and technological environments. There are three main lines of research in CF: strategic management, innovation management and future studies. The broader goal of CF is to create awareness of the external environment and ability to react to change. CF helps companies build a vision that will help them understand the complex forces that drive change, take the right decisions and orient strategy and research and development. The role of CF is essentially to handle complexity and to prepare the company for an uncertain future. CF operates with a high variety of approaches, organizational forms and tools as well as with different objectives and different outputs. However, the problems that need to be tackled turn out to be the same in almost all situations.
