ABSTRACT

If there is one thing that I have learned in teaching, it’s that most people fear public speaking. As a result, many people have very little experience with it. However, most research methods classes require either a poster or PowerPoint presentation, usually at the end of the course. Most professors require each individual, or group, presents their entire experimental paper once it’s completed. This chapter offers very specific tips on how to speak effectively in front of a group, how to create a successful PowerPoint presentation, and how to create a visually appealing poster presentation. Topics include how to deal with anxiety, being entertaining, and how to keep the audience’s attention. Sample slides and an example of a poster are included in this chapter.
