ABSTRACT

One of the course requirements of an introductory research methods course is to have a lab component in addition to regularly scheduled lecture sessions. During these lab sessions, students will be given assignments, or “labs,” to complete that must be completed in full before leaving for the day. Lab assignments will vary in content based on your progression through the course and are designed to challenge students to directly apply the concepts they are being taught during their lecture sessions. Be sure to ask questions and be open and honest with your professor if you feel you need extra guidance with or time completing a lab assignment. However, doing everything you can to be prepared upon each lab session will be the key to your success. Being an active learner, paying close attention to directions, and coming to lab sessions prepared with any necessary materials and prior readings completed are essential and will justify any extra help you ask of your peers or professor. Time management, planning, and organization are also useful things to consider when tackling longer, more in-depth lab assignments.
