ABSTRACT

One of the common threads of most research methods classes is that they require their students to complete a full-scale research project, either an experiment or a correlation. Oftentimes these research projects are done in groups, and sometimes by each student. Research projects typically begin with the student creating a hypothesis. After that, the student gathers supportive research, creates an experiment, gathers and analyzes the data, and then writes up a complete experimental paper. This is a major project that takes up at least half of the course. Although these projects are smaller in size than published research reports, the goal is to teach the student how to do research, since it is the backbone of the field of psychology. Once the student knows how to do research, they are prepared to continue their education in the field.
