ABSTRACT

Neuropsychologists have much to offer older adults and their families beyond diagnostic evaluations. Such services include treatment of neurocognitive, psychiatric, and behavioral disorders; promotion of health and welfare; and maximization of functioning. Evidence-based practices in the areas of cognitive intervention, psychological intervention, and family caregiver intervention help address clinical needs. Evidence-based education and recommendations in the areas of physical health; medications; emotional, social, and environmental factors; and technological applications can promote neuropsychological wellness, preservation, and enhancement. In the present chapter, empirically supported neuropsychological treatment and wellness promotion options are reviewed, with the goal of helping practitioners provide effective services or make informed referrals.
