ABSTRACT

The Introduction presents the general objectives of the work embodied in three levels. The first is a conceptual theoretical level that serves a two-fold purpose: to account for the rise of right-wing from the heuristic value of some categories, intended for other temporal contexts: populism, fascism, authoritarianism and so forth; and to approach to the transformations in the intellectual world that have come along with the rise of right-wing expressions. The second level aims at interpreting the phenomenon from a regional perspective so as to better understand the distinctive elements at a continental level: the singular aspects of the rise of the right in Western Europe and America, their similarities as well as their main differences. The third level delves into the specific experiences at the national level in both continents. Here, seven cases specifically are covered: Austria, Italy and Spain for Europe; Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and the United States.
